speaking at a podium

I'm not so good at small talk. Sure, I can listen to someone drone on about the weather for a few seconds, and even have a brief chat about the song playing on the radio, but my skills in chit-chat end there. Inevitably, when fluff-speak ensues, somehow, I manage to take the depth of the conversation from a comfy 1.5 straight to a 100. This isn't intentional, I just like peeling the onion. Being a person who always asks the "why?" behind everything has served me well in obtaining knowledge; but has failed me miserably in my social life.

Knowing a lot of people is VERY different than having a number of friends. Friends are rare. Keeping the circle small is my new comfort.

Speaking on subjects in which you are fluent and have studied extensively may seem like a wonderful thing; but alas, we must remember the human condition which includes the ego. Society at large doesn't accept people who think deep, study hard, and are sponges for new information. People like this are deemed "know it alls" or just plain weird. So, welcome my fellow weirdos!

I launched a new YouTube channel (a fresh venture for a non- techy gal), called "Reluctant Expert". I came upon this name after hearing time and time again, that I needed to write a book about my life thus far. It's almost as though I have smashed seven lifetimes into 46 years. In these years, I have had some successes, a ton of failures, and learned volumes of lessons.

All of my knowledge is based on what God gave me, experience, self -introspection, and research. I don't claim to know it all, but isn't that what experts admit anyway?

My 20+ years as an anorexic/bulimic make me qualified to speak on eating disorders. My 15+ years as an alcoholic makes me qualified to speak on addiction. My 15+ years as a Christian qualifies me to examine faith. The 20 years in fitness and hands on therapy qualifies me to address those issues too! I have been to beauty school, pharmacy tech school, worked in marketing, been on set and screen in California, lobbied in D.C., been put in leadership positions, won awards......and failed in more than I would care to admit (but I will). With my extensive list of failures, it proved to be more valuable than the positives gained in life. It taught me to search and research on why I am the way I am, and what to do to improve. Study on faith and psychology has opened my eyes enough to connect the dots in life.

If you continue to read my blog, it will become clear that topics will be vast. Books and videos will follow, because these posts will be a mere glimpse into the nuggets I have to share. This site is the "small talk" preceding the bigger conversation. I hope you enjoy!
